Teacher and author
Lu has published guitar books since 1999 – more than 30 titles, plus around 170 fingerstyle arrangements in the magazine Guitar Shop (六弦百貨店). His 2007 method book Fingerstyle Guitar Training Encyclopedia (指彈吉他訓練大全, now in its fifth edition) coined and defined the Chinese term for fingerstyle guitar, 指彈吉他. He is also known for his “reverse-hand” playing technique, a first among Chinese-speaking guitarists.
Artists he has coached include Jay Chou (guitar and banjo), A-Mei (ukulele), Hebe Tien (ukulele), Aska Yang, Rene Liu, Chang Yun-Ching and Rachel Liang. For Jay Chou’s acoustic solo in “免費教學錄影帶”, Lu arranged and recorded the part, then taught it to Jay in person over three days.
Original albums
Tsunami (大海嘯, 2011) – nine original fingerstyle pieces, released as CD+DVD with a companion score book. Pure Heart (初心, 2026) – twenty-plus new originals recorded live in concert.
